Last night we had our second evening of GURPS Alpha Centauri, based on Sid Meier's Alpha Centauri PC game. The first evening had been taken up with character creation while last night concentrated on getting to know each other (though I realised we still don't know each other's names, heh-heh!) and the lead-up to boarding the starship Unity and being cryogenically frozen for 70 years. Obviously that's just summarising what happened in the two or so hours we played. What a motley crew we are entrusting the future of mankind to, heh-heh!

Last Night at Runelords

Last night at Runelords saw the completion of Part 1 of the Carrion Crown adventure path: The Haunting of Harrowstone. Our characters (Chucklo, Dan Spitey, Gwendolyn, Nicolai, Smudge and Vanda) survived...just!

Many thanks to Jeremy for running it (first time running Pathfinder; first time running anything in ... twenty years, as it? ... ).

For anyone wanting to know what the characters' races, genders and classes are, they are as follows:

Chucklo: male elven rogue/ranger;
Dan Spitey: male human witch;
Gwendolyn: female human cleric of Iomedae;
Nicolai: male human fighter/rogue;
Smudge: female human sorcerer/rogue;
Vanda: female human inquisitor.

Next into the hot seat is Steph, running Alpha Centauri using GURPS rules.

Adventures in Time and Space

Our first Adventure in Time and Space has come to an end. The Nestene Consciousness that had been lurking beneath the seaside town of Arrowdown was put down and its Auton slaves with it. A time loop was mended and all is now right with the world. Many thanks to Paul for running the game.

Lost Pathfinders Found!

In the depths of a wizard's unkempt study, seven adventurers who were thought lost have been found. They met in the midst of the ninth month of two-thousand and ninth year of the Common Era in the most traditional (read: clichéd) of places: an inn. After a night of subdued revelry, nothing more was heard from them. What happened to them? Where did they go? Where they slain by monstrous foes? No. They were imprisoned in the aforementioned wizard's study. Until now. Last night, they fought their collective way out in the brilliant light of ... of ... the moon(?). First to emerge was a slender gnomish man of three feet, five inches. His unkempt hair is a mossy-greenish-brown and his eyes are grey, while his skin has a coppery hue. At his belt lies a sickle (such as a farmer might use) and a sheathed sword with a curved blade. Almost as long as the gnome is tall is the badger that trots along beside him. Next came a slender young woman of five feet, nine inches. Her hair is brown and falls in waves over her shoulders; her eyes are blue. She has a sheathed rapier and dagger at her belt. After her was a well-built man of six feet, one inch. His skin is a very dark green – almost black – while his cheekbones are high and there are several savage-looking scars on his face. A pair of enlarged canine teeth jut upward from his lower jaw and his brow is heavy. Then emerged a petite young woman of five feet, two inches. Her hair is black and falls in waves to her shoulders; her eyes are blue. A rapier, with a particularly unusual red hilt, is sheathed at her belt; in her hand is a wooden flute. And, finally, there came a slender young man of five feet, eleven inches. His hair is black and cropped to his neck; his eyes are green. At his belt, he has a sheathed long-sword and dagger. All were clad in the weather-worn and travel-stained clothing they wore in the inn. And their names? (Respectively) Gìmlīng'góndāntăofèn, Kes Trell, Toove, Theliane Redhilt and Kellen Darkblade. One is conspicuous in their absence: Silindra, the slender young woman of five feet, seven inches. She has straight, blonde hair that she wears long and almond-shaped eyes that appear purple. Her skin is pale with hints of blue around her ears and chin, while the tips of her ears rise to gentle points. At her belt, she has a sheathed longsword and dagger. She has failed to find her way out.

Dungeons & Dragons Online

In the latter part of last year, I was introduced to Dungeons & Dragons Online - which is both a blessing and a curse (it's a blessing because it's actually a cool way of playing D&D when not involved in the tabletop version but a curse because it's so damn' addictive) - and I have a human ranger/rogue (can't remember the actual split but he's a 12th level character) called Gerraent and a halfling rogue called Sambags Stockpot who's just started - both are on the Thelanis server if anyone's interested in joining me :). There is a human monk as well (Chenguang Moon) but as my subscription is due to end in the middle of this month, I'll lose her :(

I have to admit I'd forgotten all about this site. Sorry to anyone who's been looking. Well, I've rejoined Runelords after my hiatus of about six months (I was getting withdrawal symptoms lol). We're currently playing Unknown Armies and Owen is running the game. So...there we are: an update.

Paul has been running A Song of Ice and Fire for the last couple of weeks since we got back together after our extended Christmas break. He has a Facebook page set up for us to keep up to date with what's going on and what's happened. And - in an update to the post I published on August 26, 2009 - Runelords has returned to being weekly - and has actually been that way for a while (lol)

Although characters have been created for my Pathfinder game, I'm taking a break - been feeling under the weather andddddd I've just quit smoking so my head's not in the game at the moment. Paul will be finishing his Tectonic Explorers game and then introducing us to the Song of Ice and Fire Roleplaying Game (produced by Green Ronin and based on the novels of George R. R. Martin). Also in the pipeline is Owen's debut for our group. He mentioned at the end of the last session that he'd like to run Unknown Armies(?). So there we go :)

The End of the Company of the Golden Druid

With the Encounter at Cromm's Hold, the adventures of the Company of the Golden Druid draw to a close. Another adventure - or part of another adventure has been played since Encounter was finished - but as it is only partly done, I haven't written it up. As nice as it has been to keep the Adventures of the Company of the Golden Druid going, I’ve been wondering if things are getting too far removed from its origins. With two new players joining in the coming weeks, the Company of the Golden Druid will have three original members and five new members – that’s five characters who have little or no connection to the origins of the story. So I'm starting a new series of adventures with brand new characters, starting at 1st level. This time, we will be using the new Pathfinder RPG system - which is kind of like D&D 3.75 (hehe!)

Steve departed for a New Life in New Zealand a couple of weeks ago. He will be missed for his throwing curve balls at the DM (me!) and making him (me) look up rules he's (I've) never used before ... as well as other things, like his friendship :). Good luck, mate! At the same time, in a correction to the last post, Tom will be with us until he returns to Uni in the autumn and he has resumed control of Farendar, his moon elf wizard.

Return of "Maverick"

Daggerford Campaign: A Reboot

Reboots (or reimaginings) seem to be all the rage in films and TV at the moment so I thought: why not reboot the Daggerford Campaign - or the last installment of it at least? So, returning to DnD v3.5, I've converted Paul and Di's characters from our DnD v4 campaign (Five Come Together) and Brandis and Kat will become the latest members of the Company of the Golden Druid. I'm hoping to restart Adventure 6: Encounter at Cromm's Hold in the next couple of weeks with these new characters.

A Return to DnD v3.5

I am currently working on converting the Five Come Together characters to DnD v3.5. As much as I like DnD v4, I'm finding it hard to judge encounter size and translate old (and well-loved) adventures. It might be hard for the wizard and cleric (because they'll have a greater range of spells/prayers to choose from) but the newbies might find it easier not having to worry about which power/exploit to use. I don't know. I guess we can just see how things go.

Chesterfield Runelords now has two new players in the form of Paul and Di. The new adventures have started with the investigation of a haunted house and the characters are:

Brandis, a human fighter
Kat, a human rogue
Mari, a human cleric of Melora
Quinn, a human warlock

They are currently staying in the area known as Midnight's Muddle which lies in the Foreign Quarter of the Free City.

As an experiment in my conversion skills (between 3.5 Edition and 4th Edition), the Daggerford Campaign is set to make a return with Adventure 6: Encounter at Cromm's Hold. The characters will be:

Evandar, the eladrin rogue (former moon elf)
Farendar, the eladrin wizard (former moon elf)
Hareth, the human fighter

We are also shifting to a Tuesday night because of new committments.
